In-order to archive all the photos, messages and other postings, Face-Book is now busy building a vast new ‘cold storage’ facility in the US. The step has been taken in order to facilitate easy retrieval of this data that the users do not need every day but desire to retain it for any future reference.
For storing the files, a 16,000-square-foot data centre is under construction that will provide a convenient place for all the old and less popular data.
This is going to be the third addition to the existing two storage facility, The Oregonian reported.
Keeping in mind the priceless users, Facebook is quite clear on the fact that someday, the user might want to scroll back to time on his time-line, so retrieving the files as soon as possible is very crucial, but for storing and keeping all the data do takes a lot of space.
As per the reports, it is analysed that about 82 % of the total traffic is focused on just 8 % of the photographs, so this new cold storage facility is carefully designed to store those pics that are currently not in heavy rotation.

At present the cold storage building is just a skeletal frame.
Ever wondered how some blogs shows a pop-up instantly while landing on their home page. The pop up shows you the Facebook fan page , wherein you can easily like and get connected to the blog.
Well what will happen if you visit the blog once and you enjoy the content but didn’t care about the fb page. But soon again you visit the blog and their tends to be pop-up again asking you to stay updated about the blogs activity, then chances are that on the second or third visit you will click on the like button and get away.
So the simple conclusion is that the chances of getting more Fb likes is likely to be increased by showing a pop-up. For the purpose, you just need to install Facebook Page Promoter Plugin , that once enabled would show a pop up where ever you want it to be.
Advice: The plug-in gives you full authority to show the Fb pop-up every where but we would recommend to show it just once and that too on the home page, as it can be quite irritating for a visitor is he is always interrupted in between.
If you get any problem while installing it, feel free to ask questions.
Now this step which facbook is about to take has become a hot topic, as what has motivated the social networking giant to spend a whopping 1 billion $ on a two years old startup??
Before any speculations about this initiative lets first get into the history
Well for those who don’t have a clue about Instagram, let me tell you that this a very popular photo editing and sharing app that originally launched on apple devices but gradually it even spread its roots on Android devices.
Through it, the users can directly upload their pictures on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram’s own social network.
Instagram even bags an award as Apple named Instagram ,the app of the year for 2011.
Now getting back to the discussion, the most relevant answer seems that now facebook wants to enhance its mobile users.
Though Facbook already has a big share but its important to note that even Instagram has millions of mobile users which will be beneficial for it fight against other social networking websites like Google + and Twitter.
There are even other speculations like, the widened scope of mobile advertisement or acquisition of Instagram before the competitors, but what we feel is that the primary obective is the one mentioned above, as now facebook will be listed as a billion dollar company on Nasdaq so it needs or rather have to take some unique and selective business decisions to prove its worth in the near future.
